While working with you to maintain infection control, bio-security and social distancing, the Animal Hospital of River Oaks is here for you and your family.

The following is an announcement put out by the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association with regards to the Ontario Government's COVID-19 emergency response:

Veterinary services considered essential by province On Monday, March 23, the provincial government declared Ontario in a state of emergency in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic. As of midnight, on Tuesday, March 24, all non-essential services are to be closed in Ontario for 14 days. The government has deemed businesses that provide veterinary services essential. Practices may remain open and provide essential services while following best practices for infection control.
Other businesses declared essential include:
Businesses that supply veterinary and animal control medications and related supplies and testing kits. Businesses engaged in the wholesale or retail sale of pet food and supplies. Businesses that provide essential items for the health and welfare of animals, including feed, animal food, pet food and animal supplies including bedding. Businesses that support the food supply chain, including assembly yards, livestock auctions, food distribution hubs, feed mills, farm equipment suppliers, feed suppliers, food terminals and warehouses, animal slaughter plants and grain elevators. Businesses that support the safety of food, including animal and plant health and animal welfare.

COVID-19 UPDATE MARCH 23 2020

COVID-19  UPDATE March 23, 2020
The Animal Hospital of River Oaks is continually committed to the care of our patients and we are equally concerned about the ongoing well being of our families.
In the uncertain times of this COVID-19 pandemic, we want to assure you that we are doing everything possible to ensure your safety while having your pets presented to us for treatment and care.
As of today we have been seeing our patients using “curb-side” care, which means our families have stayed in their car, one of our staff have been bringing the pet into the hospital for the examination and we communicate by telephone from the exam room to the car.
While this  can be an effective way to maintain the appropriate “social distancing”, at this time we do not know what limits are going to be put on us by the Ontario Government as they are about to place a “shut down” order on non-essential services.
It is hoped that we will know tomorrow or the next day exactly what services we can provide, but it is likely going to be “urgent care” only for a little while.
We are hopeful that we will still be able to use telemedicine as compared to being totally closed, and we are hopeful that we can still supply appropriate nutritional products and dispense needed medications.  It is our plan to be here for you, as best as the systems in place allow us to.
Please do not hesitate to e-mail or call for ongoing care, and we will keep you updated as best as we can, by e-mail newsletter, on the blog page of our website, facebook and instagram.   We will likely announce reduced hours.
Please stay safe, avoid crowds or large gatherings, wash and disinfect your hands often, and please call with any questions you have.  As always, we want nothing but the very best for you and your families.

COVID – 19 Update

The Animal Hospital of River Oaks is committed to the care of our patients and we are equally concerned about the well being of our families.
In the uncertain times of this COVID-19 pandemic, we want to assure you that we are doing everything possible to ensure your safety while having your pets presented to us for treatment and care.    We are using hospital strength disinfectants on all regularly touched surfaces, regularly throughout the day.  We will do our best to keep appointments spaced so that there is always a minimum number of people in the reception area at any one time.
Current information regarding pets and COVID-19 is that they are not vectors of this disease, and do not pose a risk to their families.  .  The experts in the field are monitoring constantly and we will certainly update you with any changes in this area.
As a councilor and executive member of the College of Veterinarians of Ontario, Dr. Gold is in direct communication with those in charge of the regulatory body that governs veterinary medicine, ensuring that best practices are adhered to.  The leadership of the College of Veterinarians of Ontario is in communication with our provincial government, ensuring that all appropriate information is gathered and shared so that the practice of veterinary medicine can continue for the best care of our patients and their families.
Should at some time in the future the Ontario Government require businesses to close, and if Veterinary Medicine is not declared an essential service, which would temporarily stop us from seeing  you and our patients, we will do everything possible to continue to be able to support your pet’s needs, by utilizing Dr. Gold’s ability to support and care for our patients using telemedicine consultations.  While there are some limits to what can be done by telemedicine,  at least Dr. Gold will be able to help as much as is possible, based on the standards of current  modern veterinary regulations.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions that you may have, we look forward to continuing to be here for you, your families, and your special family members, your pets.
Please stay safe, avoid crowds or large gatherings, wash and disinfect your hands often, and please call with any questions you have.  As always, we want nothing but the very best for you and your families.
